A Message to Our Valued PatientsNovember 6, 2018
Last week Memorial Healthcare leadership made the decision to cancel elective and some scheduled surgical procedures due to staining of our stainless steel surgical instruments. We believe this is directly related to the use of hard water and detergent. At no time did we have a concern for the sterility of surgical packets or concern for the safety of our patients. However, until we can understand the nature of this staining, the decision to cancel surgeries was made. We apologize to our patients who have been affected and sincerely appreciate their understanding.
At Memorial Healthcare, quality and safety are our top priorities. Having and enforcing effective, standardized safety protocols and quality control measures helps us deliver consistently high quality, and safe patient care. When a question exists about quality or safety, we always error on the side of caution.
At this time, most surgical procedures at Memorial Healthcare are now being rescheduled. We also continue intensive investigation and testing by our internal quality and safety team members, along with outside experts assisting in this work. We are working around the clock to fully resolve this issue.
As we move forward, we will do our very best to keep our patients fully informed of our progress and developments as they occur. While we are very disappointed with the level of hardship and inconvenience this has caused, we are first and foremost committed to upholding the highest quality and safety standards. Memorial Healthcare will continue to work with patients on an individual basis to determine how to best address any and all issues related to their surgical experience. If you are scheduled for surgery, and have not received a telephone call, please follow the instructions you received during your pre-operative consultation.
At Memorial Healthcare, patient quality and safety is our top priority. If you have any questions or you have been affected by a recent cancellation of surgery, please contact our Patient Advocate between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at (989) 729-4960.Share:
