Memorial continues to invest in the latest medical technology to provide our patients and the Shiawassee community with the best care.
Recent Tech Advancements
Da Vinci X Robotic Surgery System
Memorial Healthcare is the first hospital/surgery center in the State of Michigan to use the daVinci X™ robots. This is the newest technology in robotic surgery available today.
This new technology enables a surgeon better mobility and visualization to perform more intricate procedures. Operations are completed using a few small incisions which benefits patients by less blood loss, fewer complications, less pain, shorter hospital stays, smaller incisions for minimal scarring, and faster recovery to return to daily life.
Robotic surgeries performed at Memorial may include colon, hernia, gallbladder, hysterectomy, cancer, and prostate.
Memorial Receives Most Wired IT Award
Memorial Healthcare has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading hospitals in the adoption of information technology, according to results of the 19th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, released today by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum.
The annual Most Wired survey is a leading industry barometer that measures information technology (IT) use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. Nearly 700 organizations, representing 2,158 hospitals (39 percent of all hospitals in the U.S.), took part in the 2017 survey.
UV Technology Implemented to Fight Infection-Causing Pathogens
Multi-drug resistant organisms that can cause healthcare-associated infections such as CRE (carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae), MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) continue to be a problem among the nation’s healthcare facilities. As these infections continue to threaten patient populations, Memorial Healthcare is adding an extra innovative precaution to existing infection control protocols: the addition of ultraviolet (UV) technology to treat patient rooms and other key areas in the facility.
Memorial Healthcare purchased a Clorox Healthcare® Optimum-UV Enlight® System with funds raised through the Memorial Healthcare Foundation 2017 Annual Dinner Dance. This system uses UV light to kill microorganisms by inactivating their DNA, rendering them harmless and unable to replicate. The Clorox Healthcare® Optimum-UV Enlight® System was selected based on its ability to kill key organisms associated with increased hospital-acquired infections, its ease of use and its advanced data collection and reporting capabilities. The device is effective against a range of dangerous pathogens, including MRSA and C. difficile spores, in just five minutes at a distance of eight feet.
The adoption of the UV devices has not only shown initial reductions in Memorial Healthcare’s already low infection rates but also gives patients peace of mind that their safety is what is most important to our staff.
Around-the-Clock Care Available to ICU Patients
Memorial Healthcare’s critically ill patients now have the benefit of the most advanced telemedicine program available in hospital intensive care units today. Memorial has partnered with Advanced ICU Care®, the nation’s largest provider of Tele-ICU services, to deliver monitoring by highly trained intensivist physicians and critical care specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an extra layer of care that enhances patient safety.
In March 2017, Memorial Healthcare was the first hospital in the State of Michigan to implement this program which is demonstrated to improve patient care and to meet the best practice standard of 24/7 intensivist oversight in the ICU.
Memorial Healthcare Enhances Patient Care Addition of LIV IQ
Memorial Healthcare’s has partnered with Linde Healthcare to advance patient oxygen mobility and safety.
The Liv IQ is a gas cylinder with a digital flow and time display that denotes how much time is left in the oxygen tank down to the exact minute. It provides improved mobile oxygen therapy by bringing it into the digital age. The tank’s digital display is prominent and easy to read, showing the flow in liters per minute along with clearly indicated condition icons. It also contains visible and audible alerts that appear in critical situations. The large digital display helps give healthcare professionals a peace of mind, as it provides safe guidance throughout treatment. Rather than spending time monitoring cylinder contents, we are able to concentrate more on the patient.
These tanks can be implemented in numerous situations, including our recovery rooms, during patient transportation, and even our home-care patients.
The cylinders are also compatible for use during MR imaging. They are lightweight, available in multiple sizes, and cater to all treatment environments and patient needs. This addition will truly transform the patient experience at Memorial Healthcare.
The Latest in MRI Technology
The Optima MR450w’s addition to our repertoire means Memorial Healthcare isn’t solely providing state-of-the-art technology to its patients, but also the best user-friendly experience.
MRIs tests use a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. Compared to the typical X-ray, MRIs provide different information about structures in the body. It’s a critical tool in diagnosis, and by updating our unit we can continue to provide effective treatment.
This new system delivers uncompromised imaging capability for the most advanced and demanding exams. Its soft, flexible GEM Suite coils follow body contours while facilitating high resolution, signal-to-noise (SNR) imaging from the top of the head down to the feet. Plus, Advanced functionality provides the tools that effectively assist in rendering definitive diagnoses.
