Additional COVID-19 Cases at The Meadows Assisted Living

Following testing of all residents and staff at The Meadows Assisted Living for COVID-19, five additional positive cases have been confirmed.  In total, The Meadows has four residents and two employees with confirmed positive cases. Residents that have tested positive for the virus are isolated in the Negative Pressure Unit, two residents have been hospitalized. Employees that have tested positive are self-isolating in their homes, have no contact with residents, and are required to avoid public spaces.

The Meadows is working closely with the Shiawassee County Health Department to ensure residents and staff are safe by following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines.  Health Department staff will continue to monitor this group of positive cases.

In accordance with guidance from the CDC, staff members that have tested positive for COVID-19 will not be able to return to work until:

  • At least three days (72 hours) have passed since recovery defined as resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); and,
  • At least seven days have passed since symptoms first appeared; and,
  • All symptoms have improved; and,
  • Released by the health department from monitoring.

The Meadows has implemented the following strategies to protect their staff and residents from the spread of COVID-19:

  • All employees are being screened, including temperature checks, upon entrance to the facility and must wear PPE during their shift
  • We continue to monitor symptoms, including temperature checks every four hours
  • All communal spaces continue to be closed and residents are quarantined to their rooms
  • A negative pressure unit has been established, any residents that develop symptoms of COVID-19 will be transferred to this unit
