With more than 100 forms of arthritis and related diseases, many Americans experience regular and even chronic related pain. For the more than 30% of adults that have arthritis, it can limit leisure and work activities. Twenty-five percent of those indicate severe pain.

So with so many experiencing pain of this kind, what pain management techniques assist with arthritis pain?

  • Strength Training
  • Aerobics
  • Pilates/Range Of Motion
  • Disciplines
  • Weight Loss
  • Acupuncture
  • Braces, Sleeves or other Support Devices
Two other popular options reported by the Arthritis Foundation but not included in their update guidelines are Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulfate. Glucosamine improves pain and physical function in osteoarthritis, but it is unclear whether this supplement changes the joint structure. Some, but not all studies have showed a slowing of join space narrowing in the knee. Officially, glucosamine has been rated “uncertain” for symptom relief. Chondroitin sulfate has also shown some effectiveness at reducing pain, but not all studies* have yielded the same results.
