Memorial Healthcare Launches Testing Site After Recognizing Need to Have Convenient Testing Resources for Community

Memorial Healthcare announced a new drive-thru testing site to supplement continual testing efforts provided within the Memorial Healthcare network.

The new drive-thru testing site is located near the entrance of the Memorial Healthcare Foundation building at 1637 W. Main Street (M-21) in Owosso. Services will be offered Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

“Throughout the pandemic, Memorial Healthcare has led the way in providing the most advanced testing options to our patients and community in an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy,” said Brian Long, FACHE, President and CEO of Memorial Healthcare. “Memorial Healthcare created and launched this drive-thru testing site to give individuals in our community even greater access to testing resources should they suspect they have COVID-19 or have been exposed to it  – which is an important step in curbing further spread of the disease.”

Individuals interested in a COVID-19 diagnostic test for screening purposes, or those who are experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, muscle aches, headache, or new loss of taste or smell), or have knowingly come into contact with someone who has a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 should contact their Primary Care Provider or visit a testing location.

Those with more severe symptoms, like shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, should contact 9-1-1 or proceed directly to the nearest emergency department. If able, please call ahead to alert the Emergency Department prior to your arrival.

“From the beginning of the pandemic, Memorial Healthcare has been at the forefront in providing innovative solutions and options to keep our people safe. I join with many others in our community in applauding the Memorial Healthcare team for bringing this expanded testing option to our region as soon as it was feasible to do so,” said State Representative Ben Frederick.

Individuals should contact their healthcare provider to obtain a COVID-19 testing order before scheduling an appointment for drive-thru testing. An order from a physician is required to bill insurance. If an individual does not have insurance, or a physician’s order, please contact Memorial Healthcare’s Scheduling Department at 989-729-6422. Memorial Healthcare is prepared to assist individuals with getting an order to be tested for COVID-19.

Patients participating in the drive-thru testing are encouraged to enter the testing site from the second drive off Young Street. When patients arrive, there will be two lines: One for those who pre-registered and have an appointment and one for those that do not have an appointment. Patients are highly encouraged to schedule an appointment, but those who do not will be registered from their cars.

Testing will be conducted through a nasal swab with results generally available within 24-72 hours. All testing is conducted at Memorial Healthcare’s main laboratory in Owosso. Patients receiving a COVID-19 test can view their results by accessing the patient portal, which is located on the Memorial Healthcare website; If your results are positive, you will receive a phone call from the ordering provider.
