Meet Our Oncology Nurse Navigator

May 15, 2018

Have you ever missed a medical appointment (for a test, follow up appointment, or treatment) because you lacked transportation?  Is the information you receive from your health care providers overwhelming or hard to understand?

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it can be an overwhelming experience.  At Memorial Healthcare we offer cancer patients the option of a Nurse Navigator to enhance your care by providing a seamless navigation process from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.  Memorial understands there are times when you need help getting the care and support you need, so our Nurse Navigator is available for you.

Amber Eickholt, RN, Nurse Navigator in Oncology at Memorial Healthcare helps patients “navigate” through the health care system and receive timely care.  Amber works with patients to identify and remove barriers to effective care by coordination services, and helping to improve patient access and quality of care.  She connects patients to the resources they may need, such as financial assistance, counseling, or transportation.  Amber works as part of an integrated team that is in daily communication with physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and nutritionists to support cancer patients from the beginning of diagnosis through survivorship.

“As a nurse navigator I serve as a consistent care coordinator, patient educator and an advocate for patients, while ensuring timely access and seamless coordination of services throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis and treatment,” said Amber Eickholt.  “I provide emotional support, guidance and address a patient’s needs while incorporating internal and external support services and resources”.

A Nurse Navigator is a professional, highly skilled nurse who serves as an advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor for patients and their caregivers. Our Nurse Navigator is a member of a multi-disciplinary team of experts committed to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

From the initial screening process, to diagnosis, testing, multiple treatment options, and survivorship, cancer care can be an intimidating journey for most patients.
