Memorial Healthcare Earns Top 10 Hospital Status in Michigan

Stellar quality and safety earn CMS 5-Star and Leapfrog A recognitions to mid-Michigan hospital

OWOSSO, MICHIGAN, April 30, 2021 – Memorial Healthcare has earned coveted 5-star recognition from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), as well as continued recognition as an “A” Leapfrog Hospital for Spring 2021. Memorial Healthcare is just 1 of 10 hospitals in the State of Michigan to obtain these quality and safety recognitions, and the only hospital within a 50-mile radius of its headquarters in Owosso, MI.

“We are reaffirming our mission commitment to quality and are focused on continuing to build our reputation for offering world-class care,” said Brian Long, FACHE, President/CEO of Memorial Healthcare. “These recognitions are a testament to our team’s commitment to our vision to be recognized for excellence in personalized healthcare. Safety and quality are two non-negotiable standards that we will always uphold in the highest regard to create an environment in which our patients can focus on their health and healing.”

CMS regularly measures and rates the performance of more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country in categories ranging from safety of care, readmissions, mortalities, and timely and effective care to doctor and nurse communication and cleanliness. Memorial Healthcare exceeds the national standards in communication with nurses, responsiveness of staff, communication about medications, cleanliness, discharge information, care transitions, and overall rating. “Our team’s dedication to remain steadfast in prioritizing patient safety as we continue to battle COVID-19 is commendable,” adds Long.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 acute-care hospitals across the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harms to patients in their care.
