Tailgate Party Proceeds Help Fund New Surgical Procedure at Memorial HealthcareDecember 6, 2016
Memorial Healthcare Foundation raised nearly $27,000 to purchase new orthopedic surgical equipment at its annual Go Green! Go Blue! Tailgate Party. Go Blue fans took home the fundraising title with contributions of over $16,000.
As a result of the fundraiser, Memorial Healthcare will be implementing an arthroscopic hip procedure, the first of its kind in Shiawassee County.
Dr. Ashraf Elbanna, who joined the Memorial Healthcare medical staff in August, explained hip arthroscopy as, “a procedure that allows orthopedic surgeons to diagnose and treat problems within the hip joint without making large incisions through the skin.”
Hip arthroscopy has been performed for many years, but is not nearly as common as shoulder or knee arthroscopy, and requires specialized training and additional equipment.
“We’re seeing more and more hip related problems in our athletes, and by bringing this procedure to Owosso, I hope to offer patients an exciting treatment option they may not have had access to before,” said Dr. Elbanna.
